American Theatre of Harlem’s (ATH) 2010 Spring Actors’ Workshop gets started on Wednesday, March 10th, 7:30-10 PM at the South Oxford Space; 138 S. Oxford Street in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. The course runs on Wednesday evenings through June 2nd culminating in a Showcase performance on Friday, June 4th.
Co-facilitated by Andre Blake and Keith Johnston, two veteran performer/coaches, the 12 week workshop focuses on acting essentials for film and theater. Together they bring more than 50 years of professional experience.
Andre Blake’s extensive film credits include: Boomerang, Silence of the Lambs, Rachel’s Wedding and Philadelphia to name a few. His television credits are extensive (Cosby, Law and order, Damages, etc) and his voice-over work ranges from TV, Radio and Audio books (Pursuit of Happiness, Obama speeches, etc).
In addition to being the Artistic Director of ATH, a teaching artist and program Director for CUNY Creative Arts Team (ed. theatre co.), Keith Johnston has performed for over 30 years in the industry as an actor, musician, writer, director and teacher. He is a member of all the actors unions and has countless stage credits including Spunk, Avenue X, and Song of Sheba. He was the UPN anchorman on the Chris Rock Show and booked dozens of commercials for TV and radio. His music credits range from Lisa Lisa and Brian McKnight to Jon Hendricks and Living Color. He is a master of the stage.
Both men have worked with legends in the industry from Julia Roberts to Denzel Washington and bring a practical approach to the industry and the craft of acting through technique, improvisation, audition, etiquette and a realistic track to becoming a successful working actor. Their understanding of the craft and the business gives each participant the tools needed to achieve artistic and commercial success.
